Wisdom teeth are a special kind of tooth, because they usually don’t develop until your teenage years. The roots of your wisdom teeth, initially, are shallow and undeveloped. This is a big part of the reason it’s good to get them taken out in high school or college. When wisdom teeth are allowed to develop too long in the jaw and there’s no room in your mouth for them to go, you can end up with impacted teeth, a shift in your other teeth, abscesses, decay, and even infection in your jaw bone. Plus, wisdom teeth with fully-formed roots are a more involved extraction, which means longer recovery. We don’t need these teeth, so why wait to have them extracted?
