Information for New Patients

It can be daunting to see a new medical professional of any kind – doctor, dentist, oral surgeon. And often, it’s difficult to know exactly what to look for in a specialist like an oral/maxillofacial surgeon. At Wilmington Oral Surgery, we make the process easy. Skilled work and friendly, transparent service are at the forefront of our patient-centered philosophy.

Dr. Puckett is our board-certified oral surgeon. He has worked on everything from geriatric dental implants to neonatal maxillofacial surgery, and is focused on providing the most painless and efficient oral surgeries with leading-edge technology, including holistic tooth replacement and dentin bone grafting.

Why Choose a Board-Certified Oral Surgeon?

Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires multiple years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, Dr. Puckett manages a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth and facial regions. He is also certified and experienced in all forms of office anesthesia and sedation during oral surgeries.

Dr. Puckett practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from dental implant surgery to removal of wisdom teeth, to reconstructive jaw surgery, which includes techniques designed to rebuild bone and soft tissue structures. Wilmington Oral Surgery can diagnose and treat facial pain, facial injuries, and fractures, and utilizes 3-D digital CT and Biolase laser technology to provide exemplary care of patients from 2 days old to 102 years old.

The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) is the certifying board for the medical specialization of oral and maxillofacial surgery in the US. It is recognized and approved by the Council on Dental Education and Licensure of the American Dental Association. The mission of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is to assure the public of safe and optimal care through the development and maintenance of high standards of certification and re-certification of Diplomates in the specialty.

An Oral Surgeon Who Stays at the Cutting Edge of Oral Surgery Techniques & Technology

ABOMS establishes criteria for competence and knowledge that determines the standards of care to safely practice the specialty. Dr. Puckett demonstrated achievement of this extensive training, experience and knowledge and was granted board certification, indicated by title Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.

In order to become Board Certified, Dr. Puckett completed a rigorous application and examination process that extends over several years. Verifiable evidence of educational and training qualifications, as well as experience was required. The process of board certification requires passing both a thorough written qualifying examination and an intense oral certifying examination.

The ABOMS strongly encourages its Diplomates to continue their professional development through various educational experiences.
