If you’ve had dentures for a while, you know that eventually, they stop fitting the way they used to. And this isn’t a problem that you can just ignore when it pops up – it’s uncomfortable, and that’s the least of it. When dentures don’t fit correctly, they can cause sores and infections and make chewing and speaking difficult. There are three major reasons you dentures have stopped fitting correctly: (1) age-related bone loss, (2) bone resorption in the jaw, and (3) gum disease. Bone loss and bone resorption will cause the bones in your face to change, which affects the fit of your dentures. And gum disease, or others that cause chronic inflammation, can affect the fit of dentures as well.
