What Are Ceramic Dental Implants?

There are 2 types of dental implants — ceramic and titanium. Ceramic dental implants are made of one piece. Titanium implants are made of a titanium base and a tooth restoration material that is added once the implant has stabilized in the jawbone. Both also differ in price, healing, and durability. Ceramic implants are the more modern and often preferred approach. They’ve been available in the US since 2009 — not nearly as long as titanium implants. They are more likely to get small cracks and fissures, but repair is fairly simple. Many of our patients prefer them because they look more natural. No gray material will be visible above the gumline. They tend to be more expensive because of the manufacturing process and because the surgical process to implant them takes longer.
